Shopping

Malls

Bangkok hosts some of the prettiest malls, a place where you can cool down (airco), shop, window shop and often find great places to eat.

The most common ones are Icon Siam, Siam Paragon, Siam Square, Platinum Mall, Central world, Terminal 21, MBK and the newest one Central Park Bangkok.

Icon Siam is well known for it's views of the river, where as MBK center is one that's great for souvenir shopping and non-legitimate brand clothes and accessories (a whole floor). I personally loved Terminal 21 as well for their themed floors with cute, little shops. It's also said to have the best food court of all malls, given the cheap prices you can find here.

Chatuchak Market

Open on Saturday and Sunday from 9 AM to 6 PM only, so make sure to plan in your trip to Chatuchak in your BKK planning.  This open-air marked has thousands and thousands of little stalls (+15000) going from vintage clothes to home decoration, clothing, souvenirs etc. I absolutely loved this place and I would recommend anyone to go here. It's a very touristic place but still an incredible atmosphere.

Transportation

BTS Skytrain

Bangkok has 2 major lines (Silom and Sukhumvit) which bring you to several major tourist destinations. It's basically an above ground metro line. It operates from 6 AM to midnight and you can either buy single tickets (20-70 THB depending on distance) or a day ticket at 150 THB. Several stations have connections with the MRT.

This was my most-used transport way when I was in Bangkok as it's great to cover larger distances fast or to come back by BTS later at night after a long walk for little money.

MRT Metro

Bangkok has 4 metro lines which are operational from around 6 PM to midnight. When buying your fare you get a black coin which is your access ticket to the metro stations. Single fares range from 20 to 70 THB. Often the metro is cheaper than BTS lines and a quicker way to go around than being stuck in traffic by car.

Grab / Bolt

The Thai version of Uber, a taxi service with easy booking trough their own personal app. Grab tends to be the bigger company but it's good to have both installed, as sometimes there might be a price difference between both. Recommended when traveling from and to area's in Bangkok (old town) where no metro/bts is available if you're not willing or trusting to take busses / tuktuks

Tuktuk

Little motorbikes where you sit behind the driver. A special, Thai experience. Please negotiate your price before leaving and don't be scared to ask for a lower price, check grab for an idea of what a car drive would cost so you know how much is a more or less correct price...
